LATEST UPDATES

Trails Crossing has secured its planning agency

John Barkett, co-founder and president of the nonprofit Friends of Trails Crossing, Inc., has spearheaded the public-private partnership that will drastically reimagine four city blocks from 1st Avenue North to 3rd Avenue South. Barkett had previously worked to create a conceptual plan for Trails Crossing, which was utilized to engage the public and the City on what could be. Friends of Trails Crossing was recently a co-applicant on the Reconstructing Communities USDOT grant submission along with the City of St. Petersburg and Forward Pinellas.  Once LandDesign completes the master plan, the public-private partnership between the City of St. Petersburg and the Friends of Trails Crossing will take further steps toward designing, permitting and construction.

TRAILS CROSSING

Linear Cultural Park is comprised of four blocks of underutilized surface parking beneath I-275. It is proposed as a public-private partnership that activates a desolate area under the interstate and creates a public park with safe crossing to access the Pinellas Trail that will be designed and programmed to include walking and bicycle paths, lit art walls, a children’s area, container buildings, beer garden, dog park, art sculptures, art murals, green amphitheater and more.

Creating Spaces that Matter: About Land Design

We’re a collection of visionaries and problem solvers who believe in the power of balance, combining creativity and practicality to design what we know will thrive.

  • Trails Crossing has its planning agency

“I think it has the ability to bring together a group of diverse neighborhoods with a sense of identity, which is very exciting.”

  • Plans to transform I-275 underpasses move forward

…Taking a community-driven approach to transforming blighted areas underneath I-275 in St. Pete into vibrant park and event spaces that connect bifurcated neighborhoods.

  • Trails Crossing will be a walkable haven filled with art markets, vendors and murals

Trails Crossing could be the next step in transforming St. Petersburg into a haven for pedestrians and cyclists.

Friends of Crossing

Our mission is to deliver and maintain a first class cultural park under I-275 with safely lit pedestrian trails while providing engaging community-based health, wellness, culture, public art and educational programming for all while connecting currently bifurcated districts previously carved up by the creation of the highway system.
